Junior Chef Summer Camp with Artful Chef in San Diego County will be the most awesome culinary adventure you could imagine! So come and join us for an exciting summer of culinary fun. Artful Chefs Junior Chef Summer Camp is registering for 2020!

Junior Chef Summer Camp with Artful Chefs will be the best thing you do all summer! 

Imagine …

  • Learning how to cook at a real commercial kitchen.
  • Getting a taste of what it’s like to work as real professional chef.
  • Trying out classical French culinary techniques. You’ll learn knife cuts like julienne, battonet, allumette as well as gourmet cooking skills which you can use to amaze your friends and relatives!

So if you are at least 7 years old, join us at one of our locations in San Diego for these Junior Chef  Summer Camp Sessions!

The commercial kitchen is conveniently  located  in Vista. Even more exciting, this year we’re in Tierrasanta where a clubhouse will be transformed into a teaching kitchen for the camp.

Firstly, great chefs start their careers by learning the basic techniques. Secondly, you will learn those basics and much more during our International Cuisine Boot Camp sessions! Further, learn knife skills and cooking techniques from around the world. Most importantly, you will be working in small teams and engage in the action-packed thrill of culinary teamwork with your professional chef instructor.

Session 1A: International Cuisine Boot Camp – $295 For ages 7-16
Monday June 22nd – Friday 26th, 2020
9:00 a.m. –  1:00 p.m.
Vista Commercial Kitchen: 2515 Pioneer Ave, Vista CA 92081

French Cuisine Day: Fluffy Cheese Soufflé ,  Crepes with two fillings: Vanilla Cream and Summer Vegetable Sauté and Cream Puffs
Skills to master: Danger zone, cutting board safety, measuring, blending, mirepoix, simmer, sauté, knife skill cuts, skillet basics, baking  and presentation

Asian Cuisine Day: Baked Egg Rolls, Perfect Steamed Rice, Vegetable Stir Fry with Coconut Sauce and Chocolate Dipped Fortune Cookies
Skills to master: Dry heat and wet heat method, mise en place, smoke points, knife cut skills, stovetop safety, stir fry, simmer, sauces, dipping chocolate and recipe development  

Mexican Cuisine Day: Chicken Tostada, Fresh Corn Tortillas,  Salad, Pico De Gallo, Guacamole, Refried Beans, Dessert Nachos
Skills to master: The safe zone, cross contamination, recipe formulas, menu timing, knife cut skills, cast iron cooking, melding flavors, enhancing with spices, buffet presentation and lastly, grocery list preparation 

Italian Cuisine Day: Risotto, Caramelized Vegetables, Dessert Pizza
Skills to master: Stove top safety, sauté, simmer, reduction, caramelization, Maillard reaction, yeast proofing, kneading, knife basics and finally, team recipe challenge preparation

International Team Challenge Day:  Burger Challenge Competition 
Skills to present: Stove top safety, recipe execution,  blending skills, cast iron skills, knife skills,  plating and presentation

Certainly, because produce is abundant in summer, it is the best time for preparing Italian cuisine. So, Jr. Chefs learn how to make Italian favorites from scratch.   Further, you’ll learn to write a recipe and do menu costing. Also, and more importantly, you will practice basic knife skills. In addition, you’ll learn cooking techniques to amaze your family and friends! Lastly, we’re all hands-on.  As a result, you will have tons of fun and practice new skills each day.

Session 1B: Italian Bistro Boot Camp – $295 For ages 7-16

Skills to master: Breading, braising, sauce reduction, thickening sauces, balancing flavors, wet cooking polenta, stovetop safety, knife skills, simmer, cast iron baking and recipe development.

Hand Made Gnocchi Day: Potato Gnocchi, Herb Butter Sauce, Caprese Salad and Cannoli; 
Skills to master: Dry heat and wet heat method, recipe formulas, mise en place, smoke points, stovetop safety, simmer, sauté, piping skills and chocolate dipping and grocery list preparation 

Homemade Soup and Zabaglione Day: Roasted Tomato Basil Soup, Fresh Herb Focaccia and Zabaglione with Cream 
Skills to master: Stove top safety, roasting vegetables, sauté, simmer, soffritto, Maillard reaction, yeast proofing, kneading, knife cut skills, making custard desserts, team recipe challenge preparation

Team Challenge Day: Pizza Challenge Competition
Skills to present: Stove top safety, recipe execution,  mise en place skills, blending skills, skills, knife skills, plating and presentation skills

Lastly, here is information most parents want to know about our camps. We really want to see you at our summer camps.  Therefore, be sure to share it with your parents today.

Why cooking classes for kids in San Diego?

  • This is a great way to show your child that you support his or her love of the culinary arts.
  • Express confidence and pride in your child’s abilities.
  • Kids also learn kitchen safety!
  • Most importantly, this is perfect for kids who love to cook.

Certainly sharing the joy of cooking with children and teens in San Diego is one of the most rewarding things that we do. Furthermore our cooking classes are all hands-on. But most importantly, we stress skills and technique, safety, nutrition, creativity, and of course, FUN.

Does your child have known food allergies? 

Noteworthy, our junior chef summer camp menus are nut-free. However, our commercial kitchen is used by other chefs who may create dishes with nuts. In addition, menus may include gluten and dairy. Above all, if you have any reason for concern regarding food allergies, please call.

Our cancellation policy for camp sessions: 

If you cancel more than 30 days prior:

Because plans change, you many wish to cancel your Junior Chef Summer Camp registration. It is our policy that you may cancel a session up to 30 days prior to the start date.  You will receive a full refund, less a $100 placement deposit.  Additionally, if you reserved more than one place, the deposit fee will be deducted for each enrollment which is canceled.

If you cancel more than 14 days prior:

Further, cancellations  from 30 to 14 days before the camp start date, will  receive a 50% refund. On the other hand, you may elect to transfer to another Junior Chef Summer Camp of equal value.  In addition,  if you reserved more than one spot, the 50% refund applies to each enrollment.

If you cancel less than 14 days prior:

Finally, no refund or exchanges will be given for camp sessions that are cancelled less than 14 days prior to the first date of the session you are registered for.  To clarify, if you miss a session date due to illness or other unforeseen issues; the same cancellation policy applies.To cancel a registration, call 760-419-4609. from 8 am – 6:00 pm PST.

Artful Chefs reserves the right to cancel sessions or remove students: 

In conclusion, Artful Chefs reserves the right to cancel any camp session that fails to meet enrollment minimums.  However, in that unlikely event, we will contact you by email or text.  Following this, a full refund will be issued or you may request to move to another session. 

Finally, we reserve the right to remove your child from camp if they disruptive, abusive or rough housing.
